Summer is still in full swing during the month of September at Cloverfield Organic Farm. The vegetable garden beds are lush with abundant growth and generous harvests. The fruit orchards are also beckoning to visitors.
Delicious items that we expect to have available for u-picking in September include the following: corn on the cob, autumn berries, apples, Chilean guavas, Emeryville pink grapes, tomatoes, basil and oregano, hot manzano peppers, tomatillos, beets, kale, collards, Swiss chard, rhubarb, squashes, pumpkins, a few figs, cucumbers, horseradish, arugula, horseradish, ginger roots, lemon verbena, rau ram, red-veined sorrel, mints, lemon balm, wormwood, elderberries, blackberries, thyme, rosemary, epazote, Thai lime leaves, bay leaves, and oregano. We may have our first ripe pomegranates to u-pick towards the end of September.

We have some beautiful edible flowers for u-picking in September, including yarrow, amaranth, hollyhocks, sunflowers, cosmos, zinnias, and marigolds.

In the farm shed we have numerous dried herbs, such as hops, sheep sorrel, St. John's wort, epazote, Greek oregano, olive leaves, lemon balm, catnip, apple mint, and more. Packets of organic seeds can also be found in the shed - fava beans, amaranth, sunflowers, marshmallow, hollyhock, lion's tail, and red stem Malabar spinach. We also have jars of our raw unfiltered Cloverfield honey and bottles of organic extra-virgin Black Point olive oil.
September is also a great time for planting into your own garden. The soil this time of year is nice and warm but the days are shorter; providing nurturing conditions for root growth and getting new plantings established. We have a selection of potted organic edibles and ornamentals for sale in our nursery area - strawberries, currents, bababerries, Asian orange daylilies, turmeric, elderberries, grapes, fig trees, pomegranates, lavender, milkweed, gazania, and more.
Come to visit and u-pick every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from noon to five. We will be open on Labor Day too. You don’t need a reservation to come u-pick during our regular u-pick hours. For reserved tours, picnic tables, and events, we have alternate times on our website that you can reserve at least four days in advance. Another reserved service that we offer is private horse interactions with Magic Ben, hosted by Karen Rose Mathews. We have free parking at 501 La Paloma Rd, in El Sobrante, California, 94803. Cash, Venmo, ApplePay, credit/debit cards, Paypal, and EBT are all accepted.
We will be hosting a booth at this year's El Sobrante Stroll on Sunday, September 21. Our booth hours will be 11 am to 4 pm. We will be passing out farm flyers and you are welcome to come ask your farming/gardening questions from our expert farmers. We might have some of our organic nursery plants for sale at the Stroll as well.
We welcome you to come enjoy the seasonal ambiance and have fun u-picking bountiful organic harvests at Cloverfield Organic Farm!
