Tomato Varieties We're Growing This Year

Every year at Cloverfield Organic Farm we like to grow a diverse and interesting selection of delicious tomato varieties. This year will be no exception. Our certified-organic tomato plants are seeded and grown completely outdoors, so they are a bit later than some greenhouse grown seedlings you might find at the big nurseries. Our season is long, however, and we will have vine-ripe tomatoes to u-pick well into the fall.

Our tomato seeds were planted into seedling flats a few weeks ago and we are about ready in mid-April to prick them out into pots to grow a bit more until we transplant them into prepared beds of rich farm soil. We have some of the extra potted organic tomato plants available for purchase by visitors to the farm. They can be planted from mid-April to as late as early July in the San Francisco Bay Area and you will get a bountiful harvest.

Here are the tomato varieties we've planted this year:

Pork Chop

New Girl

Sungold

Lemon Boy

Rugby

Cupid

Peacevine Cherry

Pink Boar

Doucet's Plum

Pink Berkeley Tie Dye

Atomic Sunset

Bodacious

Micro-Spoon

Tomatoes grow best in soil that is amended with organic compost and an organic fertilizer that slowly releases nitrogen. We sell our Cloverfield soil mix and 'magic mix' fertilizer. Ask us to blend some up for you.

There is nothing as good as a freshly-picked ripe organic tomato! We offer u-picking at our farm year-round, but tomato season may be a favorite time for many. Our tomato u-picking season is typically from mid-August to early November.

Come to our farm located at 501 La Paloma Rd., El Sobrante, CA 94803. Our regular open hours are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon to five. No appointment is needed during our open hours and we have free parking.

Can’t wait for really fresh tomatoes! My dad grew tomatoes in our very urban backyard in Chicago. He was proud of his crop and our family certainly enjoyed the “ fruits of his labor.” Unfortunately, my attempt at growing tomatoes has not been as successful.

Question: Do you still have fava beans ?
