What's Up & Ready for U-Picking in June

Updated: May 21

The long sunny days of summer nourish the vegetable beds, vineyard, and orchards at Cloverfield Organic Farm. Our garden beds and orchards are bursting with items that may tempt you. We have our organic plant nursery well-stocked with potted grapes, asparagus, elderberries, strawberries, currants, figs, pomegranates, and several different herbs and edible ornamentals. We still have pots of tomato starts and it is not too late to plant them in your home garden.

Things to be u-picked in June include fava beans and bell beans, kale, Swiss chard, collards, sorrel, lettuce, fennel, potatoes, beets, chives, onions, garlic and elephant garlic, purslane, rhubarb, grape leaves, nopales cactus pads, yellow ginger, horseradish leaves and roots, and elderflowers. Bouquets of beautiful and edible flowers can be u-picked in June, including calendulas, Sweetheart roses, violas, cornflowers, yarrow, daylilies, hyssop, hollyhocks, nasturtiums, chamomile, and borage.

Herbs that can be u-picked in June include four kinds of mint (chocolate, apple, orange, strawberry), Greek oregano, German thyme, lemon balm, rosemary, wormwood, parsley, garlic chives, rau ram, Kaffir lime leaves, catnip, bay leaves, sheep sorrel, and epazote.

Unripe green wild plums are good to u-pick and make into delicious chutneys or other pickles early in June. There might be a few ripe Lapins cherries and strawberries to be found during the month of June. Wilder red currants ripen in June also. If you are lucky and the birds don't get to them first, we have lucious Pakistan mulberries that ripen in the mulberry trees. Later in the month of June there will be many more stone fruits ripe and ready to u-pick, including pluots, wild plums, and apriums.

We sell our dried herbs, a few seeds, raw honey, and extra-virgin organic olive oil in the farm shed. Our farm also makes a special location for a private tour, therapy horse interaction, picnic, field trip, or other event that can be arranged on our website,

We are located at 501 La Paloma Rd., El Sobrante, CA Our regular open hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from noon to five. We have free parking and there is no entrance fee. Other times and special events and services can be reserved on our website. www.cloverfieldfarm.us
