We are entering a transitional season at Cloverfield Organic Farm, where we switch from summer vegetables to our cool-season winter crops. Throughout this month we will be harvesting the last of the tomatoes, squashes, quinoa, and amaranth grain. We will be planting peas, carrots, cabbages, broccoli, mustard, beets, and kale.
We are hosting Disco in the Garden on Sunday, October 5, from 4 to 7 pm. Come enjoy the garden and join the rave afterwards. Details and tickets are available through EventBrite.
Fall is a beautiful season to come visit the farm and u-pick fresh organic produce right from the garden beds and orchards. This is the season to u-pick pomegranates, elderberries, early persimmons, and figs; as well as tomatoes, tomatillos, and peppers. We should also have some golden berries, zucchini, winter squashes, and pumpkins. There might still be a few cucumbers. If that isn't enough, there will be several herbs, including lemon verbena, lemon balm, mints, thyme, rosemary, sheep sorrel, absinthe wormwood, catnip, rau ram, Thai lime leaves, California bay laurel, and ginger & horseradish roots. Leafy greens such as collards, lettuce, red-veined sorrel, Malabar spinach, Swiss chard, pac choy, and kale should be plentiful. Rhubarb stalks will be ready to harvest in October as well. There may even be some colorful beets and radishes.
Organic flowers to u-pick in October include yarrow, cosmos, zinnias, hollyhocks, and marigolds - all of which are edible.

Fall is also a great time to purchase and plant potted organic edibles. Our nursery is well stocked with a number of perennial edible organic potted plants, including fig trees, grape vines, currants, strawberries, comfrey, milkweed, hops, artichokes, anise hyssop, rhubarb, chocolate mint, strawberry mint, treasure flowers, sage, and more.

Every single week of the year, we are seeding and transplanting new crops into our densely planted garden beds. We grow everything in healthy, organic-rich soil, under the sun, without any synthetic inputs or any toxic 'cides'.
We will be holding our Fall Organic Farming Worshop, a seasonal volunteer day, on Thursday, October 30. We welcome volunteers to come give us a hand and learn about the seasonal chores that keep our farm productive year-round. We plan to focus on planting garlic and seeding cover crop during this event. Please wear sturdy shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. If you have them, also wear your gardening gloves. We will supply all instructions and tools, and light snacks and water will be provided. All ages and abilities are invited. The hours will be from 11 am to 2 pm. If you wish to come volunteer, please email us at cloverfield@gmail.com
We are open for farm visitors and public u-picking every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from noon to five. We are located at 501 La Paloma Rd., El Sobrante, California, 94803. There is no entry fee during our regular open hours and we have free parking. You pay for what you pick or purchase at the end of your visit.
Private tours, group visits, picnics, parties, horse interactions, and other events can be booked and paid for on our website.
