Alcea rosea, or hollyhock, is a pretty perennial flowering plant that lives for a few years.  It has tall stalks of blooms in shades of pink, burgundy, and yellow in the summertime.  The flowers are edible and make nice additons to salads or as decorative fruit or salad cups.
